Barefoot in the Park

Ever since its Broadway debut in 1963, it has been a favorite among audiences at every level. ECP has mounted its own productions of this romantic comedy classic, most recently in 2006. Barefoot in the Park is the timeless story of a young married couple, having just enjoyed a magical, six-day honeymoon at the Plaza hotel in New York, settling into their new home – a tiny, sparsely-appointed “fixer-upper” of a fifth-floor walk-up on Manhattan’s east side. Not only must they learn to adapt to the limitations and inconveniences of their surroundings, but they must do the same with their relationship. Will they successfully negotiate the pitfalls and tribulations of a brand-new marriage? Will they learn to love each other as well as be in love with each other? Well, it is a romantic comedy, after all . . .
