Upper Valley playwright Marisa Smith (Mad Love, Venus Rising) brings us a world premiere cycle of monologues that weave a tale of love, regret, family, and how things change (or don’t) from generation to generation. When memory is so strong, how can we make sure our best days are ahead of us?
About On the Harmful Effects of Tobacco
Northern Stage favorite and Emmy-winner Gordon Clapp (NYPD Blue) brings to life one of Anton Chekhov’s heartbreakingly comic characters in this companion piece to Smith’s The Naked Librarian. Nyukhin, a long suffering husband and father, has been prodded by his wife to give a lecture on “The Harmfulness of Tobacco,” in spite of the fact (and because, we realize) he is a smoker. This ineffectual little man lays bare his unhappiness and failed dreams as we laugh together about the ridiculousness of life.
