ABOUT THE SHOW

Nominated for 5 NH Theatre Awards!

"Shakespeare in Love' is the stage adaption of the academy award-winning Marc Norman and Tom Stoppard screenplay, of the same name. Adapted for the stage by Lee Hall with music by Paddy Cunneen and performed with special permission from Samuel French. Amplified Arts will be the first theatre company in NH to perform it on stage!

A cast filled with local, award-winning talent will play such roles as Will Shakespeare, Kit Marlowe, and Queen Elizabeth I. All set in Elizabeth's England in 1593. Done in contemporary language with some of Shakespeare's verse mixed in, no accents, and live renaissance music, this show is not one you will want to miss!

The Story: Penniless and indebted to two demanding producers, struggling young playwright William Shakespeare is tormented by writer’s block until he meets the beautiful Viola de Lesseps, daughter of a wealthy merchant, whose fiery passion for poetry and drama leaves her secretly longing to be an actor. Both are despondent when they learn that Viola’s father has promised her to the stuffy Lord Wessex in order to gain a title for their family. Under the veil of secrecy, Will and Viola’s passionate love affair becomes the basis of the very play he is writing – Romeo and Juliet. With opening night – and the wedding day – fast approaching, the plots race toward a parallel conclusion. Will it all work out in the end or are the two star-crossed lovers destined for tragedy?.

In our intimate space, you will be only a few feet away from the Bard as he borrows language from his beloved London to create a masterpiece of love and loss! But this is a dramatic comedy, so there is even a bit with a dog!

The creative team includes production direction by AMP's award-winning artistic director Shelly Hudson, music direction by Eric Ruthenberg, and fight choreography by Holt Littlefield.
