ABOUT THE SHOW

Montpelier Community Gospel Choir presented its First Annual Black History Month Concert entitled We Lift Our Hands on February 25 and February 26, 2023. We Lift Our Hands Concert featured a selection of favorite gospel songs showcasing the music of Dr. Ysaÿe Barnwell, Richard Smallwood, Kirk Franklin, Dr. Brenda Joyce Moore, and more. We sang a joyful noise and welcomed our new Artistic Director, Verdis LeVar Robinson, in his directorial debut.

About the Montpelier Community Gospel Choir

Now in its 28th year, the Montpelier Community Gospel Choir strives to celebrate gospel’s rich heritage, and its power to move people spiritually creating a profound sense of community.

“We come together in harmony and with reverence for the tradition of African-American Gospel music — its artistry, history, strength, and resilience. We see the power of this music to inspire and manifest love and connect to the divine in all of us. Our choir is a community that heals by lifting the human spirit.” -MCGC Vision Statement

Performing gospel music from and inspired by the rich African American choral tradition, we honor those who have created and carried this music through unspeakable hardship and faith. While firmly rooted in gospel, MCGC is a non-denominational community choir with members from all over central and northern Vermont. The choir is now directed by Verdis LeVar Robinson and accompanied by a full band of local professional musicians. Learn more at montpeliergospel.org.
